Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS ENJOY THE ANNUAL SUMMER SOCIAL
Members and their families gathered on Saturday evening July 17th to enjoy a BBQ that included all the goodies found at the best BBQs. The BBQ was chaired by Membership Chairman Bob Long and his committee of Tom and Dulce Passanisi, Dave Stassel, and Diane Restivo. The featured guest at the event was Mike Alexander, the head of the Pasadena Patriots (Tea Party) who reported on all of the planned events of the organization from now until the November election. Alexander noted how the Tae Party is not designed to replace the Republican Party, but rather, is a mechanism to organize and lead Conservatives and Independents as they work to elect Conservatives to offices at the local, state and federal levels.

Committee Chairman Al Restivo spoke briefly and empathically urged members to contact our two Democrat State Representatives, Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, and State Senator Carol Lui to warn them about the consequences of their supporting current legislation that is designed to remove the two-thirds vote on Parcel taxes. “Taking the 2/3 requirement from Parcel Taxes is equivalent of destroying the protection we all enjoy from Prop 13. If this legislation is past by the legislature, Prop 13 is essentially dead and locals and state governments will have the power to tax us right out of our homes with ever increasing taxes.” The Chairman urged Republicans to make the calls immediately and to note to Mr. Portantino and Ms. Lui that while there is little expectation that they will vote for them any time soon, that they and other members are in daily contact with many independents and Democrats who will not wish to lose the protection of Prop 13 and have their taxes raised sky high. Restivo added that if the Democfrats are interested in mobilizing Republicans, the best way to do it is by supporting this regressive legislation.

Also speaking at the BBQ was Alvaro G. Day, the Republican candidate for the 44th Assembly seat held by Portantino. Day told about the ground swell of support he is receiving from people from both parties who are telling him that while they like Mr. Portantino personally, that they have come to discover that he votes like a left-wing liberal while proclaiming that he is a “fiscal” conservative. Day is strongly supported by the Tea Party movement and won an uncontested Primary election. The young candidate is a graduate of UCLA where he majored in Political Science.

Chairman Restivo also announced that committee members will soon receive an invitation to a Giant Tea Party being sponsored by the Pasadena Patriots and the La Canada Flintridge Republican Committee. The event will take place in mid-September at the Jeffers Estate in La Canada Flintridge, The date has not yet been set. “We expect to mobilize a 1,000 patriots ,Republicans, Democrats and Independents from all over Southern California.”
